The
Ancient Chinese philosophers believed that everything that we
are or that we see is comprised of the five elements of water,
wood, fire, earth and metal. The five element theory is as strong
today as it was to them thousands of years ago. It is the basis
upon which certain Chinese Medicine diagnoses are reached and
treatments prepared.
In this
series, Jones has captured the essence of the elements using the
interplay of night and light to highlight their being. Individually,
they are seen as being out there, part of life but distant. In
the central image, the five elements are seen interacting with
each other and are portrayed as part of our life. They are as
large as life itself. They now radiate out from their individuality
as one and, in so doing, highlight the strength and power of the
philosophy.
